Description
Aim: ‘Heart Saver CPR and AED’ is a training program designed to teach individuals the skills and knowledge needed to provide basic life support in emergency situations. This program is suitable for anyone who may be called upon to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED), including workplace first responders, security personnel, teachers, and community members
Requirements: Individuals should be physically fit enough to carry out chest compression on a manikin while kneeling. If a learner has any conditions which may affect their ability to complete a practical assessment they should notify the training provider prior to commencement of the course. Individual should also have a level of English language proficiency that will allow them to interact with the instructor and be led by the DVD.
Who’s it for: The course is for people who want to learn CPR and AED use but who are not expected to use it regularly. This could include non-healthcare personnel, sports coaches, teachers and parents etc… This course is also suitable for non-acute healthcare staff such as healthcare assistants, porters, cleaners and medical secretaries working in hospitals or nursing homes.

Method of Delivery & Duration: The course is facilitated by an instructor who will use DVD to guide you through the course. The course is delivered in English. The course is between 2 – 4 hours long depending on the modules undertaken and the number of students on the course.
Assessment: As students progress through the course they will be continually assessed by the instructor. Towards the end of the course the students will be presented with a complete CPR & AED scenario and must successfully complete all necessary steps to pass the course.
Certification: Upon successful completion of this course students will be issued with an Irish Heart Foundation / American Heart Association certificate and is valid for 2 years
Renewal: You are required to renew this course every 2 years
