Description

Aim: The Heartsaver AED and CFR-C Course, includes the Heart saver CPR AED Course as its basis with an additional CFR Community module. This course aims to teach individuals the skills and knowledge needed to provide basic life support in emergency situations as well as  to recognise the cardiovascular incidents like stroke and heart attack, and take immediate steps to access expert help to prevent deterioration and save life.

Requirement: Individuals should be physically fit enough to carry out chest compression on a manikin while kneeling. If a learner has an impairment which may affect their ability to complete a practical assessments they should notify training provider prior to commencement of the course to discuss options

Who’s it for: This course  is recommended for lay people and also an ideal course for people who are in Community Responder Groups, Workplaces, Sports Clubs, Employees of public buildings, Parents, teachers and child minders and General public. The CFR-C component  is the required standard of training for any group wishing to link to the National Ambulance Service as a Cardiac First Responder Group

Safe operation of AED

 

The additional CFR portion of the course includes:

  • Stroke assessment (FAST Assessment)
  • Heart attack and the administration of aspirin
  • Patient Handover and CFR report
  • Infection Control
  • Post event issues (critical incident stress awareness and debrief)
  • Team resuscitation

 

Delivery  & duration: The Heart Saver AED- CFR course follows a practice-while-watching video format and is led by instructors who will provide feedback and guide you through the lessons and help improve your CPR technique as you practice on a manikin. It usually takes 4 hours to complete, depending on the modules undertaken and the number of students attending.

 

Assessment & Certification:  Skills assessment using PHECC’s CFR Community assessment sheet. Successful participants will receive an IHF/AHA Heartsaver CPR AED and an IHF/PHECC CFR Community course completion card, both of which are valid for two years.

 

Renewal: You are required to renew this course every 2 years
